Arranged with Nick a windsurfing sesh up at Barrow would be a good idea as
the forecast was for a SE in the morning to then veer to SW and drop as the
low pressure came overhead.
The drive up didnt give myself or Nick much enthusiamsn at all as it was
heavy rain all the way. Arrived and still raining so called in to the Roa
island cafe for a lovely bacon baguette. Half an hour later and the rain
had stopped so rigged up in the boat yard and got on the water.
We probably went out at the worst state of the tide as it was a couple of
hours after Low tide meaning the tidal currents would be at their strongest
and especially with the wind blowing us downwind towards Barrow. That took
a few knots of the wind once out at sea so my 6.3 was just enough.
Had a good hour of blasting back and forth attempting gybes but failing
most of them, I've definately gone back a few steps.
Went for 1 gybe, all was going well, flipped the rig and grabbed the
otherside of the boom only for it to snap off in my hand. Luckily I was in
the shallows of Walney isalnd so turned the boom upside down and limped
back to the boat yard.
An abrupt end to the session so the intention was to get my kite set up and
go out from where the abandoned boats were but me and Nick lost total
enthusiasm with the persistent heavy rain.
